California Strawberry Growers’ Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament
Thursday, October 7, 2010
Pajaro Valley Golf Club, Watsonville, CA
Join us for a day of fun while supporting the California Strawberry Growers’ Scholarship Fund. This spring, the Fund awarded more than $104,000 to 105 students – all children of strawberry farmworkers – to continue their college educations. Students like:
• Nelida Gomez, pursuing a masters degree in Math and Spanish at UC Santa Barbara
• Alejandra Huerta, pursuing a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from the University of Wisconsin
• Patricia Fernandez, pursuing her masters degree in Education from National University
• Jesus Sandoval, an entrepreneur, returning to Harvard Business School to earn an MBA
These students, and their families, share the dreams of better lives. The people who grow and harvest our fruit are the most vital component of our industry. The California strawberry industry would cease to exist without their hard work and dedication. And, their children would not be on the path to a higher education.
Since the start of the Fund in 1998, nearly $770,000 has supported more than 530 students in their pursuit of education and training. The Fund helps put them on paths to professional positions, often returning to work in their home communities.
Please support this worthwhile cause: take advantage of the sponsorship opportunities listed on the attached page, and enter a foursome for tournament play. Last year, even though the tournament was rained out, we raised more than $20,000 for these students. This year’s goal is $40,000: please give generously!
