Plant Nutrition

Much of the strawberry acreage is found within the coastal areas of California, which lends itself to a wide diversity of soil types and nutritional challenges. Growers often must deal with poor water quality for irrigation, further restricting nutrient uptake.

    Organic Production:
California strawberry growers are pioneers in organic strawberry production with more organic acreage in California than anywhere else in the world.

    Fertilizer Research:
Through the California Department of Food and Agriculture Fertilizer Research and Education Program, university and USDA researchers have conducted research on fertilizer applications in strawberry bed-based production systems.  This research has focused particularly on nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium to optimize amount ranges and placement within the rootzone for maximum uptake.
