California Strawberries...
A Profitably Popular Fruit in Foodservice

Strawberries top the list again as the favorite dessert beverage flavor, according to MenuMine Trends. Out of 149 flavors, strawberries topped the Creamy Dessert Beverage Category and out of 80 flavors, strawberries were third in Iced Dessert Beverages. Iced beverages are increasing in the foodservice industry, up 139% since 2002 according to a study done by Mintel, and make the perfect drink for all occasions. Smoothies and strawberries make a perfect, affordable match for you and your customers.

According to Technomic, Inc., strawberries are one of the most profitable fruits in foodservice.

Adults love them. Children love them. In fact, 85 percent of consumers surveyed by the California Strawberry Commission in 2006 said they could eat strawberries every day. These strawberry lovers are currently eating strawberries at home and in restaurants. Strawberries are most often eaten as dessert but when asked how they would like to see strawberries offered in restaurants, side dishes, appetizers and in kids' meals were the top answers.

Strawberries are profitable. With their proven patron appeal and labor-saving convenience, strawberries can be a cost-effective way to boost add-on sales and help jump-start "sleeper" menu items. It's no surprise operators consider strawberries to be a very profitable fruit in foodservice.
