The California Strawberry Commission’s Food Safety Certificate Program, now in its third year, focuses on five subject areas delivered in four class meetings. Strawberry employees that participate satisfactorily in all four classes will obtain the Food Safety Certificate. In addition, for those who have completed the Food Safety Certificate, a new class, Food Safety Leadership, will be offered for continuing education. All classes are conducted in Spanish and require speaking, reading and writing in Spanish.
For first-line leaders and those responsible for cleaning and disinfection processes in the field. Participants will learn about specific food safety risks associated with tools and equipment used in strawberry harvest, as well as and sanitation practices to reduce these risks. Topics include gloves, hand hygiene and sanitation of picking carts, containers, calyx removal tools, and fruit contact surfaces.
