Machine Vision-Assisted Bare Root Transplantation

Overview


This project focuses on the development of the machine vision component of an automated strawberry bare root transplanter. Currently, bare roots are planted by hand through pre-punched holes in plastic bed coverings. The proposed automated system would require a pre-loaded bare root dispenser with a machine vision system that identifies when the bare root is appropriately positioned over the pre-punctured hole. When identified, a mechanized planting action is triggered. The vision system has been prototyped in MATLAB and can be integrated with the robotic and control components of existing field equipment.
