California Strawberry Commission Receives Produce Business Marketing Excellence Award#PickReal Food Truck promotion tapped for recognition

The California Strawberry Commission was named a 2018 Marketing Excellence Award winner by Produce Business, for the #PickReal Food Truck promotion in August 2017. During August 1-5, 2017, the California Strawberries #PickReal food truck circulated at selected events in the Los Angeles area. Latin fusion strawberry dishes were promoted and sampled by community members during the five days of events. The featured recipes showcased strawberries in new and interesting ways to the participants and highlighted that 65 percent of California strawberry farmers are of Latino descent. A full social media, media relations and influencer campaign supported the food truck’s journey through the Los Angeles area. Nearly 6 million media impressions were generated along with local news coverage.

The commission partnered with nonprofit organization No Kid Hungry, donating the proceeds of the food truck sales to provide 13,200 meals to local kids in need. “The #PickReal journey through Los Angeles was the perfect experience to showcase the connection between family strawberry farms and the family table, while giving back to the community through our partnership with No Kid Hungry,” said Chris Christian, senior vice president of the California Strawberry Commission.
