During the Commission’s development of a new lygus vacuum, we observed that the newly designed bug vacuum could produce noise levels that exceed the 85 decibel (dB) level that triggers OSHA requirements for noise mitigation. Upon further investigation, standard vacuums and other farm machinery likely exceed acceptable noise levels for a standard work period.

See the Commission’s full advisory on noise mitigation for details about what employers can do to mitigate noise on the farm.
