On February 21st, Assemblyman Robert Rivas (D-Hollister) authored Assembly Bill 2956, that would provide income tax credits on employee overtime wages paid or incurred by the taxpayer in the taxable year to an agricultural employee. The intent of the bill would be to assist agricultural operations in bridging the transition schedule for the 2016 Phase-In Overtime for Agricultural Workers Act. The tax credits would be usable for overtime wages starting on January 1, 2020 and would sunset on December 1st, 2023 if it passes through the legislature and the Governor signs the bill. The legislation will now be scheduled for committee hearings in the Capitol where it could be amended. The CSC Public Policy team will be monitoring the progress and engaging with Assemblyman Rivas and other members in the Capitol as the bill moves through the legislative process.
